OrderContainers share their host's kernel — which is exactly why that host should be yours. Every HostKontor server runs on KVM virtualisation, so your system brings its own kernel: you pick the Docker version and storage driver yourself, and configure networking, firewall and volumes without restrictions. NVMe SSDs keep image pulls, builds and database volumes from waiting on storage.
Your container hosting comes in 16 configurations: eight in Istanbul with 1 to 10 cores on a 25 Gbit uplink, eight in New York with 1 to 20 cores on a 10 Gbit uplink. NVMe storage ranges from 20 to 240 GB, with up to 24 GB of DDR4 memory. A single Nginx container is fine on the entry package; for a Compose stack of application, database and queue, pick one or two sizes up.
As the base you install Ubuntu 18.04 to 25.04, Debian 9 to 13, AlmaLinux 8/9 or Rocky Linux 9 — the usual platforms for Docker Engine, Docker Compose and Podman. Windows Server 2019/2022, MikroTik RouterOS and custom ISO images are available as well. Full root access means private registries, custom network bridges and scheduled builds — whatever runs on a server of your own runs here.
Three free snapshots per server capture the state before you upgrade the engine or roll out a new stack; if the update goes wrong, you roll back instead of rebuilding. Scheduled automated backups are available as a paid add-on. And if an experiment ever leaves the system unable to boot, the KVM console still gets you in.
Every Docker VPS includes one IPv4 and one IPv6 address. Traffic is not metered; a fair-use rule applies, meaning the port speed must not be saturated continuously. Availability of 99.98% is guaranteed — if we fall short, the unusable time is credited back to your account. Engine and containers are yours to administer; that freedom is exactly what separates your own server from any container platform with preset limits.
Pick a location and package in the customer portal at id.hostkontor.de and pay monthly or yearly by credit card, bank transfer or cryptocurrency — provisioning starts automatically after payment and usually completes within minutes. After that, only installing the engine stands between you and your first docker compose up. When your stack grows, you can move to a larger package at any time; downgrades are not supported. You choose the operating system freely: common Linux distributions are the Docker default, Windows Server 2019 and 2022 are available too — and a custom ISO installs anything else.
