The target system is ready in minutes

Order your target package and provisioning runs automatically: the server is usually reachable within a few minutes of payment. Every VPS runs on KVM virtualisation with NVMe SSD storage and includes one IPv4 and one IPv6 address. Old and new systems run in parallel during the move, and with packages from EUR 2.00 net per month plus VAT, the transition stays easy to budget. From day one you are covered by the guaranteed 99.98% availability — if we fall short, the unusable time is credited back to your account.

The same stack in its new home

Rebuild your existing environment on the target server: Ubuntu 18.04 to 25.04, Debian 9 to 13, AlmaLinux 8 and 9, Rocky Linux 9, Windows Server 2019 and 2022, and MikroTik RouterOS are available as images. For anything else, mount your own ISO image. That turns switching providers into a plain data transfer rather than a rebuild from scratch.

Inventory, rehearse, cut over

The proven sequence applies here as in any good migration: first inventory services, data volumes, certificates, cron jobs and DNS records, then transfer the data with root access and run the full workload on the new server. Only when the test convinces you do you lower the DNS TTL and switch. The old system stays untouched until final acceptance, so your way back remains open at all times.

Snapshots secure every step

Three snapshots per server are included free: set a restore point before each migration step and return to the last working state if needed. For day-to-day operations afterwards, automated backups are available as a paid add-on. And if something goes wrong mid-rebuild, the KVM console still gets you onto the server even when the system no longer boots.

Bandwidth for the data transfer

In Istanbul your server transfers over a 25 Gbit uplink, in New York over 10 Gbit. Traffic is not metered; a fair-use rule applies, meaning the port speed must not be saturated continuously — and a time-limited migration transfer is not continuous full load. Ordinary web, application and database workloads are unaffected in any case.

From plan to order

Choose your location and size: eight configurations in Istanbul with 1 to 10 cores, eight in New York with 1 to 20 cores, with 20 to 240 GB of NVMe SSD depending on the package. Ordering and payment run through the customer portal at id.hostkontor.de by credit card, bank transfer or cryptocurrency. Size your entry with expected load in mind: you can move up to a larger package at any time, but not back down. After that, nothing stands between you and the move — pick your package right below.

Does HostKontor migrate for me?

No — managed services are not part of the offer. You run the migration yourself; the documented flow of inventory, rehearsal and cut-over structures the path, and the KVM console secures access at every stage.

How do I minimise downtime during the move?

Build the target system in parallel, rehearse the restore, lower the DNS TTL and switch only after a successful delta sync. The old server remains as the way back until acceptance is complete.

What does the target server's test phase cost?

A VPS from €2.00 net a month — or a cloud server that bills hourly and only consumes balance for the actual rehearsal time.
