VPS selector: the right package in three steps

Two locations, 16 VPS packages and a cloud server billed by the hour — which combination fits your project? The VPS selector turns your requirements into a concrete profile you can compare directly against the packages in the customer portal. That way you order by need, not by gut feeling.

Inputs

Scope the workload

The output is a review list, not a plan recommendation.

Your next review list

  1. Capture peak memory, sustained CPU, images and ports
  2. Measure user distribution, then assess Istanbul or New York
  3. Define data volume, backup objective and restore test
  4. Define maintenance window and acceptable interruption

01

The question this tool answers

HostKontor offers 16 VPS configurations: eight in Istanbul (1 to 10 cores, 25 Gbit) and eight in New York (1 to 20 cores, 10 Gbit), with NVMe SSDs from 20 to 240 GB and net prices from EUR 2.00 per month plus VAT. On top of that sits the cloud server, which bills hourly from your account balance. The breadth is deliberate — all the more reason to narrow things down before you order. This tool answers one question: which combination of cores, RAM, storage and location your workload actually needs.

02

Three steps to a requirement profile

Step one: describe what will run on the server — a website, a shop, a database, a container stack, a Windows application or a networking task. Step two: estimate the load — concurrent users or processes, memory requirements and expected data growth. Step three: set your preferences, such as a location close to your users and the operating system you want. From these inputs the tool builds a requirement profile with target figures for CPU, RAM and storage — your working basis for comparing packages.

03

How to read the result

The profile is a lower bound, not an order: it describes what your project needs at minimum, and you pick the package that covers those figures. In many projects RAM and storage become the bottleneck before the CPU does, so check those two values first. For the location, proximity to your users decides: Istanbul for Türkiye and the surrounding region, New York for North America and international services. A third location in Germany is in preparation but cannot be ordered yet — the launch will be announced on this website.

04

When in doubt, start smaller

If your profile lands between two packages, one fixed rule helps: you can move up to a larger package at any time, while moving back down is not supported. For predictable load, start with the package that just covers your profile and grow as soon as the load demands it. If your demand fluctuates heavily or cannot be estimated reliably yet, the cloud server is the fitting answer: top up your balance, launch servers, and resize CPU, RAM and storage up or down at any time. Billing runs hourly from your balance — you only pay for what actually runs, and the current hourly rates are shown in the customer portal.

05

What every package includes anyway

Some points need no weighing up at all, because they are identical in every package. Every server runs on KVM virtualisation with full root or administrator access and a KVM console that stays reachable even when the system no longer boots. One IPv4 and one IPv6 address are included, as are three free snapshots per server; automated backups can be added as a paid option. Traffic is not metered — a fair-use rule applies against continuously saturating the port speed — and availability of 99.98% is guaranteed, with unusable time credited back. For the operating system you choose between Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Windows Server and MikroTik RouterOS, or mount your own ISO image.

06

From profile to order

With the finished profile you switch to the customer portal at id.hostkontor.de, pick your location and package, and pay by credit card, bank transfer or cryptocurrency. Provisioning runs automatically after payment and usually completes within a few minutes. HostKontor is a brand of the US-based White Label Services group, which serves more than 50,000 active customers group-wide. Start with your requirements — the rest is a comparison.
