Total cost calculator: what your VPS really costs

The entry price is easy to find — what matters is what your server costs in total, per month and per year. The total-cost calculator brings base price, optional add-ons and VAT together into one figure you can actually budget with: per project, per client or for the whole financial year.

The question this calculator answers

VPS offers look similar at first glance — they differ in what the price includes and what gets added later. The calculator therefore answers a simple question: what does your server cost in total, net and with every item that belongs to your setup? The basis is the current data from the customer portal, where all 16 VPS packages are listed with monthly and yearly prices, starting at EUR 2.00 per month plus VAT. In the end you compare your actual costs, not list prices.

02

Three steps to the total

Step one: take the base price of your preferred package from the customer portal, as a monthly or a yearly figure. Step two: add the items that belong to your project — such as the paid backup option or licences for software your stack requires. Step three: apply the statutory VAT to the net amount if you want to see the final figure. The result is a dependable total instead of a rough estimate.

03

Already included in the base price

Much of what usually appears as a separate line in hosting budgets does not need to be entered at all. One IPv4 and one IPv6 address come with every server, as do three free snapshots and full root access including the KVM console. Traffic is not metered; a fair-use rule applies, meaning the port speed must not be saturated continuously — so a traffic line simply disappears from your calculation. Provisioning also runs automatically after payment, usually within a few minutes.

04

What to budget on top

Honest total costs include the items not every project needs. Scheduled automated backups are a paid add-on — worthwhile wherever data changes daily and three snapshots are not enough as a safety net. If you run licensed software, for example Windows workloads, its licence belongs in the calculation as well. And plan for growth from the start: moving up to a larger package is possible at any time and raises the base price accordingly, while moving back down is not supported. All prices on this website are net and exclude statutory VAT.

05

Fluctuating load: calculate by the hour, not the month

For systems that do not run around the clock, a monthly flat rate is often the wrong yardstick. The HostKontor cloud server bills hourly from your account balance: you top up by credit card, bank transfer or cryptocurrency, launch as many servers as you need in one account, and resize CPU, RAM and storage up or down at any time. What is not running costs nothing — exactly what makes hourly billing attractive for test, campaign and project environments. The Starter Cloud entry configuration offers 2 vCPU, 4 GB of DDR4 RAM and an 80 GB SSD on 25 Gbit; the current hourly rates are shown in the customer portal before you start.

06

From result to order

Once your total stands, the path to the server is short: in the customer portal at id.hostkontor.de you pick a package and location — Istanbul on 25 Gbit or New York on 10 Gbit — and pay by credit card, bank transfer or cryptocurrency. After payment the server is provisioned automatically, usually within a few minutes. The performance you budgeted for is also contractually backed: 99.98% availability is guaranteed, and unusable time is credited back to your account. HostKontor is a brand of the US-based White Label Services group, which serves more than 50,000 active customers group-wide.
